SIX FEET UNDER / DEATH RITUALS
Its business as usual in the SFU camp and if you like Death
Metal that’s good news, Chris and the guys have been consistently putting out
good alums every other year or so and know just what the fans expect from them
and they always deliver.
The albums is packed full of some great Death Metal riffs
with some superb guitar playing from Steve Swanson and Chris’s unique
vocalizations that are very distinctive and cant be mistaken for anyone
else. The songs are full of menace
and the promise of Death, one listen to the grind of “See Of Filth” and
“Involuntary Movement Of Dead Flesh” or the psycho menace of “Shot In The Head”
with its disturbing voice message at the start will leave most Death Metal fans
wanting more. There are few
surprises on here but what you get is totally convincing, the track “Bastard”
could almost be described as melodic in places in a Six Feet Under kind of way
and will have you shouting along in no time flat.
Also listen out for the fun packed songs: “Death By Machete”, “Killed In Your Sleep”, “Murder Addiction” and
“Into The Crematorium”, the digipack has 3 bonus live
tracks, you can be sure this is my album of the week, no
problem.

VIKING SKULL / DOOM, GLOOM, HEARTACHE AND
WHISKEY
The title of the this CD says it all really and it’s a
welcome return to Roddy and the crew with their blend
of Classic Heavy Metal bringing back their blend of drunken
debauchery.
If you haven’t come across this band before, where the hell
have you been, musically they are in the same ball park as Black Label Society
and lets face it, that’s damned good company to be in and you can bet your last
£ that the songs are all about, Women, Drinking and Rock N Roll. You only have to take a look at the
track titles to know what to expect, “Hair Of The Dog” (no not a Nazareth
cover), “Start A War”, “Shot Down” and “Double Or Quits” being prime examples of
what these guys do.
If your looking for some good old fashioned, blues drenched
Rock then Viking Skull is the band for you and they keep Corby firmly on the
Rock N Roll map, a well deserved album of the week for my HFM show, buy this or
the boys will be round to see you, you have been warned, the only criticism I
have is that it’s a bit Danny DeVito, too damned
short.

SHORT BUT SWEET TRACKS
SKINNY MOLLY / NO GOOD DEED
This is Southern Rock at its best sounding similar to Molly
Hatchet and Blackfoot, in fact this album is dedicated
to the memory of Jackson Spires the now deceased Blackfoot
drummer.
Like most Southern Rock skinny Molly are laid back, full of
blues and know how to pick a good tune whether it’s the fine “Enough Of
Nothing”, the hard hitting “High Cost Of Low Lining” or the superb “Me And The
Devil Himself” you cant help but be impressed by how good they sound coming out
of the speakers. I haven’t come
across Skinny Molly before but now I have you can be sure that I will be playing
tracks off this good ol’ CD on my HFM show, if you
like the bands mentioned you will love Skinny Molly, the south will rise
again.
